Do Anyone Make A Practical Air-Conditioned Suit For Really Hot Weather?
I'M Imagining A Jacket Or Full-Body Suit That Incorporates A High-Tech Cooling Device Of Some Sort. More Than Just A Fan To Move Air Over Your Skin But Actually Has Technology Akin To An Air Conditioner. I'Ve Never Really Seen Anything Like This, But With Modern Technology It Seems Very Possible. Thanks!
Some Japanese companies do make air-conditioned shirts, pants and jackets among other things....known as kuchofuku....although they are simple fan powered systems. Leave it to the Japanese to come up with this stuff. Other designs incorporate chilled water passed through tubes on a shirt
Or vests and full body suits made for cooling purposes...
How Can You Fix Window Air Conditioning Unit Whose Coils Keep Freezing?
My Window Air Conditioner Just Started Having A Problem This Week. The Coils Inside Are Freezing Over And Then It Starts Spewing Out Water. I Have Tried Not Using It To Let The Ice Melt And Then Drained The Water Out, But The Freezing Continues Next Time I Use It. Why Is It Doing This? Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Fix It?
Clean the filter, and the coil behind it, then check it again. If it still ices up, it's time to call in the A/C mechanics, but cleanliness of the filter and the coil are *usually* the cause of a frozen coil.
Who Invented The First Air Conditioning?

What Is More Cost Effective: Air Conditioner Or Fans?
I Have A 1200 Sq. Foot Apartment And My Electric Bill Seems To Be High. I Was Wondering If It Was Because I Have 1 Fan Running All The Time And 2 Others That Run For The Majority Of The Day, And Also The Ac Which Keeps My Apartment Around 74Ish ( I Live In Orlando, Florida). I Wanted To Know If I Should Turn Off All My Fans And Make The Ac At Like 70 Or Should I Leave The Fans On And Have The Ac At Like 78? Which One Is Cheaper Or More Cost Effective?
There are timers (thermostats) for air conditioners that you can set to turn on the before you generally arrive home that can save you from air conditioning all day that will save big $$$. Also, I believe ceiling fans help to cool and keep the cost down.
Air Vents Not Blowing Air But Furnace Is On?
I Recently Build A Brand New House And This Is My First Winter In It. All The Air Vents On The Second Floor Where The Bedrooms Are, Barely Blow Any Air. Except For My Daughter'S Room Which Actually Blows Too Much Hot Air. It'S Very Hot In Her Room But Really Cold In The Other Ones. The Heater Guy Installed A Small Fan In The Vent Of The Master Closet(And Tore Off A Part Of The Ceiling In The Garage To Get To It) So It Can Redirect The Flow Of The Air From Her Room(Which Is Adjacent To Mine) To Mine. Now The Closet And Bathroom Is Warmer But Not The Room.
The Problem Is That Yesterday We Discovered After Checking The Vents That The Air Flow From Them Is Very Weak If Any At All. I'M Going To Be Calling Him But I Can'T Help But Wonder If There Is Some Kind Of Major Flaw That Took Place During Installation.
Any Suggestions Of What The Problem Maybe?
It sounds like the person who installed your system was unqualified to do the work. Part of any proper installation is choosing the correct sized equipment, duct, registers, and all of the ducts should have in-line manual dampers to restrict the flow to areas receiving too much air and open up the duct to allow the maximum air to areas that are nor receiving enough. An in-line fan should not have been required. In a professional installation, the required CFM for each room is pre-determined before the work begins. Based on these numbers the correct size unit is used along with the correct sized duct and registers. The manual dampers are a very important part of the installation to balance the air flow to get the design CFM's to each space. I would not call this same person. I would not pay him either. I would report him to the better business bureau and the Department of Consumer Affairs. Did you see if he is even licensed? Is he insured?
Addition: In that case, ask him if he did install manual dampers in the ducts to allow for air balance and if he says no, ask why not. If he used the correct size unit, all he should have to do is adjust the dampers to obtain the correct air flow to all of the conditioned spaces. I would ask him to show you where these dampers are installed. There should be one in each duct leading to each area or room. If there isn't he did not do the job properly and you should tell him to add the dampers. They're not expensive. They are just a round piece of sheet metal that is installed inside the duct and can be turned perpendicular to the duct to block the air flow or parallel with the duct to allow maximum air flow. Once the correct balance is achieved, they just need to be tightened with one nut and left alone. I added them to my house years ago because the upstairs never got enough air while the downstairs got way too much. I installed most of them near the fan coil and since the duct insulation covers them I used a small amount of spray paint to mark their location if I ever needed to adjust them in the future. I work for one of the largest commercial air conditioning companies in southern California and every job we do requires an air balance report where the actual CFM must be within 10% of the designed CFM. We don't do residential work, but the same principles apply. An air balance report might not be required, but you should at least be comfortable in every room for heating or cooling. Good luck.
