How Can You Tell When Monterey Jack Cheese Has Gone Bad, Without Any Visible Mold? Does It...?
...Have A Strong Smell? Can You
Describe The Smell? Mine Has A Strong Smell That I Would Say Is Similar To What Bleu Cheese Smells Like. The Cheese Tastes Good Just A Stronger Taste Than The Normal. What Causes This? I Have Had This Happen To Me Alot When I Buy That Particular Kind Of Cheese, It Does It Most Of The Time Unless I Use It Up Real Fast! I Do Have It Vacuum Sealed In A Container As I Have A Food Saver. Please Help Figure This Out! I Shop At Albertsons But I Have Had It Happen From Other Stores Also So I Am Totally &Quot;Mind Boggled&Quot; As To What This Is From Or Why! Will Hope To Hear From Someone Who Can Explain It And Tell Me If The Cheese Is Eatible.
Here's the problem: Cheese is milk gone "bad" in a controlled way. The first step in cheese-making is curdling the milk. From there -- depending on what kind of cheese you're dealing with -- there's a miriad of steps including aging. The thing is, cheese continues to age after you buy it -- most likely under less-than-perfect conditions (assuming you store cheese in your fridge).
Your refrigerator is MOSTLY responsible for what you're experiencing. The cold is okay, but the humidity is TOO LOW for storing most moist cheeses. What's happening is that the cheese is dehydrating. With less moisture, the flavors and odors are getting stronger (more concentrated) and that's what you're noticing.
SO, what can you do about this problem? First, if you have the option, store the cheese in a drawer of the fridge that has humidity control and set the humidity at the highest setting. Second, store the cheese in an airtight container (tupperware, rubbermaid, etc.) with a dampened paper towel in the bottom. The container will trap the moist air inside and keep the cheese from being dehydrated by your refrigerator. Make sure the cheese is wrapped and not resting on the damp towel. That would promote growth of unwanted mold.
Harder cheeses (like parmesan or romano) don't have this problem because they are already drier than monterey and other "semi-soft" cheeses. I rarely have a problem storing them for much longer periods of time.
Oh yeah, except for a little "off taste," that dried out cheese is perfectly safe to eat. After all, it's just "milk gone bad."
How Come When I Set 27 Degrees In My Air Conditioning... Its Cold And When Its On Heat Its Hot:P?
So Like Today Its 27 Degrees... And Before I Put It On 25 And 26 Degrees And It Was Too Cold So Now Its On 27 Degrees
How Come It Feels Cool?
And When You Put It On Heat... It Would Feel Like A Oven???
In Celcius D:
Many thermostats will turn the A/C on when the temperature is lower than what is set and turn it off when the set temperature is reached. So it will cool to 26 or even 25. With the same setting for the heater, the furnace will come on at 27 go to 28 or 29 before shutting off. (27 is quite warm anyway.)
My house has the air ducts near the outside walls and the thermostat is near the center of the house. During winter the outer walls cool first and when the thermostat finally cools enough to turn on the heater, the house is quite cold. Then the furnace comes on and heats the outer wall first. When the heat finally reaches the thermostat, the house is too warm.
Also there is the human factor. When you are cold, such as when you awake in the morning, your body has cooled. You turn up the thermostat one degree and get a cup of something hot to drink. By the time the furnace has heated the house a little, your body is overly hot from the drink.

Residential Return Air System?
Built A 900 Sf Addition To 2 Story 2500 Sf Colonial House And Increased Furnace And Air Conditioning Accordingly. I Did Not Add Additional Return Air Vents Or Increase Size Of 2 Existing. The New A/C Unit Which Runs At A Higher Fan Speed Than The Furnace Produces Considerable Return Air Noise Due To High Return Air Velocity. Would Adding A Return Air Duct System In The New Addition Reduce Exisitng Noise?
Yes it would, and it would also help the efficiency of your new A. C..
Lingering Dog Urine Smell In Carpet After Intense Cleaning. 10 Points!?
My 5 Year Old Dog Urinated On Our Carpet 4 Days Ago O.O He Refuses To Pee When The Neighbor Dog Is Outside. Anyway, As Soon As Is Happened I Steam Cleaned The Carpet.
Steam Cleaning Didn'T Work.
I Have Tried:
Steam Cleaning 6 Times (Resolve, Enzyme Urine Wash, Oxyclean, Lysol, Dawn, And Wisk) Didn'T Help At All.
Dumped Vinegar On The Area And Soaked It Up With A Towel. Didn'T Work.
Sprinkled With Baking Soda And Vacuumed. Didn'T Work
Squeezed Lemon Juice On The Area, Didn'T Work
Poured Vodka On The Area. Didn'T Work. (This Advice Was From My Russian Grandmama Lol)
I'M About To Rip Up The Carpet. My House Smells Like Really Bad Onion Breath And Body Odor! Help!
Bicarbonate of soda is about the most effective thing you can use to get rid of smells but you've already used this! However, have you allowed this carpet to dry after the treatments? It occurs to me that the smell might be lingering because it's still damp. He must have a very bad condition for his urine to smell like this and to be honest, I think you are faced with lifting the carpet. But allow it to dry completely, and keep the air moving in your home (windows open) and see if it clears. We use Oust in the UK, for getting rid of smells - it removes, instead of replaces which so many preparations do, and which makes it ten times worse!! I'd not think vinegar or lemon juice would do the trick - nor vodka.... what a waste!!
