And secondly, there is the heat throughput; which is how many kilowatts of heat the air conditioner can transfer from the cold side to the hot side. This will ideally be rather more than the electrical consumption.
Note that the amount of heat actually given off at the hot side will be equal to the throughput +plus+ the electrical consumption (nearly all of which ends up ultimately as heat).

What we do here is the AC in the bedroom runs during the day, then when its time to go to bed it gets shut off. If the AC is going to be in a common room then you can leave it on all the time.
