Frequently Asked Questions:
Does My Landlord Have To Fix The Air Conditioning?
I Live In State College Pa And During The Summer My Apartment Has Been Up To 90 Degrees And I Have An Air Conditioner. It Does Not Cool The Room At All Its Basically Cold Water Going Through A Radiator. Its Basically Always On. On And Off Is Just A Fan Which Isn'T Strong At All. They Have Said That They Attempted To Fix It But No Change In Room Temp. I Wanted To Just Say Screw It And Buy A Window Unit But Were Not Allowed To Have Them. What Can I Do? I Wouldn'T Complain If We Were Allowed To Use A Window Unit. If They Are The Only Ones Who Can Supply A/C And I Have No Control Shouldn'T There Be A Temp That They Must Comply Too?
Does the lease include air conditioning? If it doesn't, the landlord is not required to fix it as it's considered a perk not covered in the lease.

My Central Air Conditioning Unit Freezes Where The Filter Is Located And Turns Off...?
Does Any Body Have Any Idea About This Apart From Calling A Repair Man?
Thanks For Your Help....I Appreciate It A Lot =)
This could be caused by one of several things or any combination of Dirty air filter, Dirty coils, Low freon.
They make a coil cleaner that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes for the evaporator coil and while there get a new filter.
I would try these first and if that does not work call an AC tech.
Help, My Central Air Condition Unit Pipes Keep Freezing Up.?
My Central Air Condition Unit Keeps Freezing Up. Today I Checked The Capacitor And It Was Not Swollen And Look The Same As The Day The Tech Put It In 2 Years Ago. But, The Bottom Of The Unit Was Filled With A Medium Size Planter Amount Of Dirt And Debris. I Removed The Cover And Moved Over The Fan And Got It All Out. Then, I Removed The Cover From The Inside Unit And It Was Frozen Too. So Since I Turned Off The Main Power From The Breaker Box And The Power Directly Connected To The Unit, I Melt The Ice. I Used My Portable Vac To Blow The Fan Which Was Really Dirty And Blew All The Around The Inside Too But It Was That Dirty Anywhere Else Visible To The Eye. Thereafter, I Noticed That The Plastic Drain Outside Had A Piece On It That Was Turned Up That Seemed To Always Hold The Water In. I Called My Friends To See In Which Direction Theirs Were Pointing And They Told Me Down. Since Mine Was Glued Or Calked On, I Cut It Off (I Have An Ace Hardware Store And A Lowes Not To Far From Me So If I Need Another, I'Ll Run And Get One). Thereafter, I Opened The Vent Holding The Filter And Used My Kirby To Suck Up All The Dirt And Debris That Was Found In There. It Was A Lot. I Placed A New Filter In There And Shut It Down For 9 1/2 Hours Then I Turned Both Power Sources Back On And Turned On The Unit. My Question Is, Will Doing All Of These Things Keep My Unit From Freezing Up? Right Now Its Working Fine And The Temperature Is Dropping Pretty Quickly. Please Advise. Also, How Can I Test For Leaks Before I Have A Tech Come Out And Add Freon? My Friends Mentioned Some Dye Test But I Haven'T A Clue What It Is Or Where To Buy It. Is It Attainable Or Only For Licensed Techs? Thank You In Advance For Your Advice And Swift Reply.
Sounds to me like you did alot for your unit. The fluorescent leak detector you can buy from most any HVAC supply house that carries Nu-Calgon products. Just walk in the door like you own the place, pick it up off the shelf and cash out.... Spray the stuff on every soldered joint & watch it very carefully. Bubble equals leak. You still may have a low refrigerant problem. The things is: if its low it went somewhere.
Any reputable, COMPETENT tech will also do a leak check with a very very sensitive halogen sniffer that picks up traces of fluorine at the atomic level.
Now,... if your evaporator still isn't clean there also is a no-rinse spray you can use on the evap the does a very good job. Look for it as well when you are in the supply.
With your fan & evap clean and the refrigerant level correct, and your compressor doing its job,.... with no more mechanical issues your unit should cool to its capacity very efficiently. If your living space is insulated well you will have a good summer.
Mini Van Air Condition Issue?? Please Help!?
Why Does My Air Condition Work Great When I'M Driving But When I'M Sitting Still Like In A Parking Lot It Stops And Just Turns Pretty Warm (It'S Not Winter Blast Like It Is When I'M Driving)? 2 Different Times It Has Overheated While Parked (Running) And Once I Turn On The Heater To Take The Heat Off The Engine Then Wait A Couple Of Mins, I Drive Off And The Temp Goes Back To Normal And It'S Fine Again. I Make Sure There'S Is Water So Idk.... Does Anyone Know What Could Be Causing This?? Please Help! Thank You!!
you more than likely have an a/c cooling fan not working properly. You have 2 fans one is for the radiator and the other is for the a/c the a/c fan cools down the condenser which makes the air cooler going inside the car and when it doesn't get cooled properly the a/c will put out hot air.So have the relay for the cooling fan checked also the fan motor.
