Frequently Asked Questions:
How To Properly Set-Up My Air Conditioning Unit?
I Just Rented A 25 Sqm One Bedroom Condominium Unit, The Air Conditioning Hole Was Placed Near The Floor And In The Living Room And Not The Bedroom. I Bought A 1.5 Hp 12,600 Kj/Hr (Cooling Capacity) Unit Since According To Most Websites This Is The Most Appropriate Specs For That Kind Of Area. However It Does Not Cool The Entire Area.
My Suspect Is The Improper Positioning Of The Acu. Since It Is In The Floor, It Cannot Take The Heat Off The Room To Convert It Into Cold Air Since Hot Air Goes Up.
Is There Any Way To Fix This Except Making Another Hole Near The Ceiling? The Land Lord Does Not Allow To Make Any Construction Works In The Unit.
Thats about 300 Sq FT. So the unit is designed to handle about 400. If the room is rather hot and its on the upper level floor it may take several days of non stop running to cool the space. If not with in two days (as at night you dont have sun) it cant preform the cooling needs, the unit is too small for the capacity. Meaning you need to add a 2nd unit or buy a larger one. If the other room is seperated by a wall I hate to say but youll never get that room cold. You would need a 2nd unit. Or you can try a small fan to blow the air from the room that has the AC unit feeding it. Again, it may or may not work. The only other option is a portable AC unit which would have a high BTU rating and for sure would handle the space no problem.

What Was Used Before Air Conditioning?
As My Schools Final Project For Social Studies We Had To Do Projects On Certain Time Periods. I Chose To Do Medieval Times. So Since It'S Been So Hot Lately Where I'M From I Got To Thinking About Something To Add To My Project. How Did They Keep Cool During The Summer In Medieval Times Considering There Wasn'T Even Fans Or Anything Since There Was Now Electricity. Did They Just Like Open All Of Their Windows And Hope For A Breeze?
Castles had thick stone walls -- the castle was bit like being in a cave. There weren't many windows in castles. For the peasants who couldn't cool off in a castle or stone cathedral, they just tried to stay cool like we do now. Stay in the shade as much as possible and keep hydrated.
How Did People Live In The South Before Air Conditioning?
What Did People Do In The Early 1900S In The South Before Air Conditioning Was Invented? Can People Really Live In A State Like Florida Without Air Conditioning Today?
Hi Paul that is a great question! I have a couple of answers for you as my family lived without air conditioning until about 10 years ago. Hope this helps!
- People were used to the heat. Now days, folks are used to being cool, when back in the old days there was no air conditioning at all. My fiance is from the north, and when he first moved to the South, he had a lot of trouble adjusting to the heat. He is used to it now (only outside, inside he has the air on!).
- Basements. Some areas of the South don't/can't have basements, but usually a nice dark basement is going to be at least 10 degrees cooler, and not as humid. My grandmother used to stay in her basement from after supper until midnight or so to cool off.
- Ceiling fans. Fans have been around before air conditioning. A fan on a front porch with a nice breeze and a glass of sweet tea is likely to keep you from sweating too bad!
- Porches... Most houses back in the day had large front porches. People spent time outside because it was the health fad back then (and still true!). It is likely to be cooler outside with a nice breeze rather than inside where it may be stuffy.
- A wet cloth around the neck would sometimes do the trick. In fact, whenever I go to an outdoor festival in the summer I soak a rag or bandana in cold water and wear it around my neck. When it heats up, I rinse and repeat!
- The way houses were built in the old days were a lot better for hot summer days. If you notice, older houses usually have much higher ceilings. The typical height of a ceiling now is around 8 feet. Back then it could be 12 feet or more. Heat rises, so it makes for a cooler inside. Also, many older houses have a large hallway both upstairs and downstairs with a door on both ends to let the air/breeze pass through the house.
Which Month Is The Best?
I Am Trying To Plan A Vacation To Las Vegas Either On Aug. Or Sept. In Term Of Weather And Prices Which Month Is Better? Thanks!
There really isn't a BAD time to go to Las Vegas. If you want to enjoy it, with the crowds and all the commotion, go March-October. If you want it to be less crowded go after october. The least busy time is Christmas to new years. Vegas has really hot summers and chilly winters, but air conditioning is a great help. Since Vegas entertainments are indoors, the weather is normally a minor question. Nevada temperatures can be very warm in the day, but nights can also be quite chilly. So, be prepared with the proper clothing.
