Frequently Asked Questions
What Is A Good Brand Of Split Air Conditioner?
I Am Looking To Get Rid Of My Old Window Ac And Put In A Split Ac, I Would Like To Get One That Is As Quiet As Possible. What Other Key Things Should I Be Looking For In A Good Unit?
The advantage to a split system is that it can be used in a home without heating ducts and all are generally made to be quiet. (If you have a furnace with ducts throughout your home a central A/C is what you should be looking for). There are many manufacturers that produce split systems (Sanyo, Pace Air, Napoleon, LG, Carrier, Friedrich, Soleus, Amcor and others), and just like everything else in life - you will get what you pay for. Depending on how many rooms you need to cool will determine if you need a mini-split or a multi split system for multiple zones/rooms. Most all are made using the new R410A refrigerant instead of freon and are made to be energy efficient. Personally, I prefer to work with manufacturers that only make one product and are experts with that one product, which is why I would steer more toward a Friedrich (which pride themselves on quality and low noise) or a Carrier than a Sanyo. That being said - LG is quickly becoming a solid source for quality in refrigeration units. Any of the sources listed above have a good track record with cooling units - the key is not skimping on cost and buying to the higher end. This doesn't mean buying all the "bell's and whistles" (although higher end will come with them all) but buy those units that have a compressor with solid manufacturers warranty. If price isn't an issue and your looking for a product that will last - my vote would be Friedrich...

Air Conditioner Turns Off Then On By Itself?
It'S A Frigidaire 22,000 Btu Window Ac, Brand New. Around The Same Time Every Day (5:30-5:45) And Then Comes Back On Around 45 Minutes Later. When It Comes On, All Of The Lights Illuminate And Then Actually Turns On. Is It The Air Conditioner Itself Or Could It Be The Outlet/Breaker? Thanks In Advance.
Model # Of The Ac Is Fra226st2
Modern air conditioners have so many functions that save energy that it can get quite complicated.
Your unit is Energy Star rated and has the following energy saving/timer functions: auto-cool mode, energy saver mode, sleep mode and 24-hour timer (see source below).
While it is most likely either the sleep mode or the 24-hour timer that is activated, check with your manual to make sure you are in control of all the settings.
What Is The Ideal Temperture For A Server Room?
I Hear 68-71 Degrees F. What Do You Do/Have Heard.
How About Humidity?
At What Temp Can Damage Begin.
I Know, Vague Question, Just Trying To Get A Ballpark.
Most of the data centers I am in are kept in the low 60's. Having the ambient temperature at that rate means the temperature in the cabinets is likely at a safe level. Start shutting things down when the ambient temp gets into the upper 80s.
Humidity you want to be as low as possible, but usually the air conditioning to keep the temperature down does a good enough job on the humidity as well.
Small Air Conditioners?
The Air Conditioning In The House I Live Is Broken. I Rent Out A Very Small Room. The Summer Heat Is Already Getting Unbearable. Is There A Small, Low-Energy Air Conditioner That I Could Buy? Is There One About The Size Of A Microwave? Just Something Small Enough To Cool A Small Room?
For a small room Wal-Mart carries an AC unit at around $70 with a energy star label on it that is about the size of a microwave. I recommend you get one without the energy star label for about the same price. The "Energy efficient" ones go through multiple cycles to keep energy costs down but do not keep the room icy cold like you want it to be on a hot day.
Where Is The Best And Cheapest Place To Buy A Portable Air Conditioner?
Is An Evaporite Or Air Conditioner Better? Any Brands You Would Recommend. Where Is The Cheapest Place To Buy It Online As Well As Stores? Thanks.
Really the best place is on amazon in my opinion. Bestbuy has some good deals and cheap refurbished models as well.
Also an evaporative air "cooler" works best in dry heat and not so much in humidity. See our article below for more in depth information on the differences from a portable air conditioner.
