Frequently Asked Questions

Car Smells Sort Of Like Gas, Only For A Few Minutes?
I Have A 2000 Toyota Corolla, Really Good Condition, Starts Easily, All That. Never Had Any Serious Problems With It. For The Last Week Or So, When I Start It, I Smell Something Similar To Gasoline From The Inside Of The Car (Through The Air Vents Maybe). When I Step Outside The Car, I Don'T Smell Raw Gasoline. The Exhaust Just Seems Really Smelly, Like A Snowmobile. And Usually After A Few Minutes Of Driving, The Smell Starts Going Away. I Have To Drive Long Distances To Work, And I Don'T Want To Drive My Car If It'S Dangerous But I Can'T Afford To Miss Work Right Now. Is This Something Dangerous That Needs To Be Fixed Asap? Or Can It Wait A Few More Days? What'S Going On?

You say it smells like a snowmobile? Maybe what you smell is oil burning? That would give you a snowmobile type smell? Check under the hood and on the floor for any oil leaks. Check your oil condition and level. Maybe have your mechanic or oil change place put it up on a hoist and check for oil leaks and or exhaust leaks too.

If I Am Replacing My Central Heat And Air Conditioning Unit, Is It Cheaper To Stay With The Same Brand...?
Or Can I Go With A Different Brand?

You should shop around for the type of unit you want and the features you are looking for. Then when you have decided that, get several bids on the same unit. For a comparison of furnace and air conditioner brands, check out the brand rankings page at www.hvac-for-beginners.com

Air Conditioning Question?
I Live In A 1200 Square Foot Mobile Home And I Am Having Central Air Installed. The Unit They Bought Out Is A 2 Ton Unit. I Am Pretty Sure I Am Being Ripped Off Since I Can'T Imagine I Need Something As Big As Most Multi Story Homes. Question Is Am I Bing Ripped Off And Will This 2 Ton Unit Hurt Anything In The House (Electricity Prices, Furnace?) If So The Unit Is Already Installed What Do I Do Now?

If I recall, a 1 1/2 should do a 1000 sq ft home, depending where your are located. I would think the 2 ton is not a rip off, for 1200 sqf. It is better to have a little bigger unit, working efficiently, than a small unit being over worked.

Which Central * Air Conditioner * Brand Should I Choose?
I Am Looking To Replace My House Central Ac Unit With The Following Specifications: 3 Ton & 16 Seer Efficiency. My Contractor Is Offering Either A Trane Or Bryant Brand Units For About The Same Price. They Both Have Separate Compressor And Air Handler, And Very Similar Specifications. What Are Pro'S And Con'S Of Each Brand?

6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other they both do the same thing and if you look real close you ll see most of the components are the same only the names have been changed,so either one will do ,trane has a bigger name i don't see where its any better than the bryant

How Many Btus Air Conditioning For A 300Sq Ft Room?
What Size Air Conditioner For A 300 Square Foot Room

5000 BTU's will likely be the smallest unit you can find. That should be plenty to cool a single room that size. I cooled a 650 sq. ft. duplex with a 6000 BTU. Hope this helps.
