Frequently Asked Questions
Need To Replace My Air Conditioner.?
I Have A Payne 2.5 Ton R22 13 Seer Unit In My 1,100 Sqft House. The Condenser Went Out, And I Can'T Find A Used Condenser That Is Compatible. However, I Do See Condensers And Furnaces For Sale On Craigslist. I Need To Know What The Whole Unit Consists Of. I'M Not Quite Sure What The Main Parts Are To A Whole House Unit For Central Heat And Air Conditioning.
I Need To Know What I Need And An Estimate Of What It Will Cost To Switch Out Systems.
Please, don't waste your money over items from Craigslist. Here is the main parts to air conditioner units. All air conditioner units must have the five basic components to work:
1. The compressor
2. The condenser
3. The expansion device
4. The evaporator
5. The copper refrigerant tube (a tube that connects these air conditioner parts)
We’ll be discussing the refrigeration cycle from split-central air conditioner units perspective; to make it easier.
Remember: refrigeration is a process that removes heat from an area that is not wanted and transfers that heat to an area that meaningless.
Ok, lets get started.
In this refrigeration diagram, the four major components split into two sections: Indoor and Outdoor. In indoor units, we have the AC parts number 1 and 2. In outdoor units, we have the AC parts number 3 and 4.
These four majors’ components are divided into two difference pressure: high pressure and low pressure.
The high pressure side is the condenser units (outdoor) and the low pressure side is the air conditioning evaporator (indoor). The divided point between high and low pressure cut through the compressor and the expansion valve.
Refrigeration cycle is a process that removes heat from indoor evaporator to outdoor condenser units. How does it do that?

Air conditioner unit with high SEER and have Energy Star label save more energy and more expensive.
Don't be concern with the best brand, be more concern who is installer your central air conditioner units. Some technician will tell you that it doesn't matter. Each contractor favor different brand.
Make sure the HVAC contractor provide good warranty on the units he installs.
Really, Good luck shopping for contractor!
Why Does My Air Conditioning Smell When First Turned On?
I'Ve Noticed On Newer Vehicles The Air Conditioning Smells Really Bad When First Turned On, Like The Worst Smell Ever. This Has Happened On My Brand New Dodge Magnum, My Girls New Toyota Yaris, And My Uncle'S New Honda Crv. Why?
This odor happens a lot when you run the AC in the recirculation mode to often. While recirc mode does produce the coldest air it also causes condensation to build up in the coils and then it will become moldy musty and smell. Unless needed it is suggested that you run your AC in the normal (non-recirc) mode, this will help keep the coils dry which should reduce and most likely eliminate the odor.
Anyone Familiar With Old Ge Carry Cool Model Air Conditioners? Model At606fak1?
I Can Only Find 1 Page On It On Google And It'S In French I Think? I Wanted To Know If It'S Energy Compliant Or If Not Would Anyone Know How Much More A Month On Electricity I Would Pay. I Think These Models Were Made In The 70'S Or 80'S. Model At606fak1. Thanks.
I'm familiar with the GE Carry Cool air-conditioner. I don't believe it's energy-star compliant; certainly not very energy-efficient compared to today's air-conditioners. They were made in the 1970s and '80s and sold under a number of different brands, including Hotpoint and Kenmore (thru Sears). Their main selling point was that they had a built-in handle on top, making them easy to carry. There are a couple of videos on YouTube about the Carry Cool. Here is the link to one:
Should I Buy 2009 Dodge Caravan That Needs A Transmission Fix?
My Job Had A 2009 Dodge Caravan Bought Brand New That Was Primarily Used To Carry Really Really Heavy Products. Because Of This Heavy Work Usage, It Broke Down And Repairs Were Done To It And The Transmission Even Overheated And Was Fixed Once.
The Job Continued To Use The Vehicle For The Purpose And After Doing Some More Repairs To Keep It In Good Condition Such As A $1200 Repair That Consisted Of All 4 Brakes, Rotors And Valve Cover Gasket. But Then The Transmission Broke Down And Needs A New One. A Mechanic Estimated That To Repair It Would Be $2300 And That Also Includes Fixing The Condenser And The Air Conditioner That Is A One Piece Thing They Need To Do. The Job Has Decided Not To Do The $2300 Fix And Buy A Work Utility Van Instead. The Dodge Van Currently Holds Over 100K Mostly Highway Miles. The $2300 Estimate Mechanic Said That It Would Be Insured For A Year.
Would It Be Worth It For Me To Buy The Dodge? There Is A Possibility I Could Get It For $1K Or Less. Other Than Those Fixes Everything Else Outside And Inside Is Good. I Am Married With Two Toddlers And That Is Why I Am Thinking Of Getting It. Would Appreciate Your Thoughts. Thanks!
That's a very good buy if the body and paint are in good shape.
I would buy it and just have a used transmission installed and run with it.

Which Is The Better Brand When It Comes To Air Conditioners?
Which Brand Is Better When It Comes To Split System Air Conditioners?
Lg Or Panasonic?
I'm not sure about air conditioners Doc, but as far as white goods go, LG is the one brand that I tend to stick to, and I have never had a problem.
