Frequently Asked Questions:
Central Air Conditioning Alternatives?
Currently I Live In A Home That Is Cooled By Window Untis And Heathed By Furnace Heat. Recently I Got An Estimate For Installing Central Air Conditioning. 13,000 Dollars! Yikes! In This Day Of Technical Advancements, There Must Be Some Sort Of Alternative. I'D Like Something Quiet That Doesn'T Sky Rocket My Electrical Bill And Effectively Cools My Home. And You Know, Doesn'T Require Me To Take Out A Loan To Pay For It. The House Is About 2000 Square Feet. Does That Exist??
There are plenty of options out there for you. If $13,000 is too large of an investment than you were willing to make, then I suggest going to a ductless mini-split system, or multi-split system.
These are European in design, and give you the homeowner the comfort of central air, without the cost and loss of space by installing ductwork.
Ranging from 13 SEER up to 20 SEER, and utilizing the new R-410a refrigerant, these systems have been heating and cooling in Europe for over 20 years, and have finally found a niche in the U.S.

Installation time should take 1-2 days, and average cost of installation should be around $3,000 - $6,000 depending on size and efficiency. Good luck!
What Are Some Cooling/Air Conditioning Options For A Small Room With No Windows?
What Are Some Cooling/Air Conditioning Options For A Small Room With No Windows? We Have A Fan, But It Does Not Suffice In This 90 Degree Summer Weather. Help!
A portable swamp cooler may help but you don't give us much information to work with. Does the room have exterior walls, does it have air ducts, does it get a lot of heat from adjacent room?
Do You Live Without Air Conditioning?
Because I Might As Well Live Without Air Conditioning. I Live With My Parents And They Refuse To Run It Unless It'S Like 100 Degrees Outside And That'S Not An Exaggeration. I Live Near The Intercoastal Waterway So It'S Pretty Humid Most Of The Time, An Air Conditioner Would Be Splendid.
How Do You Deal With The Heat?
Well, I would just have my windows open and two to three fans in the room. When Hurricanes hit Florida our Electricity was out for about a week so we got Ice from the Freezer and put it in zip-lock bags and placed them on our necks/legs/etc. Worked okay I guess.
My Apartment Lease Forbids Installation Of Air Conditioning Units?
Does This Include Portable Air Conditioning Units? There Is No Installation Or Change To The Walls Or Windows. Electricity Is Included In My Rent.
I doubt it...those don't damage anything as they just sit in a window and you just close it down on top of it.
However, if electric is included in your rent...go ahead and put it in and wait to see if your landlord says anything...if he/she does, then re-negotiate what a fair amount extra would be for the unit....but do that in a separate agreement (for the AC only) so you aren't paying a high price in the winter as well when you are not using it.
As long as you are paying for your fair share, he/she shouldn't have an issue with it.
No one should have to suffer in the heat.
PS: To those that think "installing" a window unit that just plugs in is "installing" it...I guess he has probably "installed" a television, lamps, clock radio's, etc.

Performance-wise, prob not on a 2.0 liter.
