Frequently Asked Questions:
Does The Car Need To Be On For The Air Conditioning To Work? Why?
Okay So When I Sit In My Car, Does The Car Need To Be On For The Air Conditioning To Work Or Can I Work It Off The Battery? I Know Air Conditioning Doesnt Need Gas To Work.
Also If So, Why Does The Car Need To Be On For The A/C To Work?
Yes, your car must be on. While the fans that push the air through the cabin are electrically run, your AC compressor runs off a belt on the engine. The refrigerant used in AC becomes colder the more it's compressed - hence the need for a compressor. That refrigerant is then pumped through small tubes where the air coming in to the cabin passes over them. With the engine off, the compressor does not turn, and the refrigerant is not pumped to cool the air. You'll get air from the fans, but there is nothing cooling it.

Anyway--- a very thoughtful and timely effort on your part considering this is the 1st full day of SumHeat.
I had heat stress, several years ago, being a hero... no- being stupid... and I really thought it was going to kill me. Took weeks for recovery. Ever since, I have very little tolerance to heat, and hafta be careful when it hits 89+
And I'm the guy who teaches the dangers of heat! LOL!
All very good suggestions here. Everyone remember that the body acts like a car radiator. The time to add water is before it overheats. Slow down & reduce your exposure to it, and maintain your watch on that core temp. The body has to sweat and we hafta keep it filled. And NO! drinking hot coffee does not 'balance' your core temp. Are Automobile Air-Conditioning Recharging Systems Universal Or Is It Model-Specific?
I Need To Recharge My A/C In My Car. I Know Someone Who Has A Recharging Kit But They Drive A Different Make And Model. Does That Matter?
Since 1995 all approved for the US makes and models are basically alike as far as the access ports are concerned. A/C from car to car varies little as the principal is the same with small variations in application. But charging and recycling the 134R is universal.
Charge from the low pressure side, which is the fat line of the 2 you'll see. The low pressure port is either near the compressor or near the accumulator/drier assy. You should also check to see why it needs a charge as this indicates a leaking system.
Diagnostic tools are too expensive for a one time use. And, if you are unsure of what you are doing a good mechanic is a bargain versus having to pay for medical treatment and/or somebody to repair your mistake in the repair you attempted. Choose wisely.

Generic Brand Products?
I Was Just Wondering If Generic Brand Products For Places Like Dollar Tree For Things Like Pledge And Windex And Laundry Stain Removers And Bleach Really Worked.. I Know They Are Probably Not As Good As The Name Brand Products But Would They Even Be Worth Using?
my shopping list:
~ kitchen and bathroom spray:branded (i prefer the smell) - £1.70 each
~ stain remover: branded - £1
~ washing powder:branded - £1
~ fabric conditioner:branded - £1.70
~ bleach:generic - £1 2-4-1
~ air freshener:branded - £1.20
~ cleaning wipes:branded/generic - £1 each (i use 3 kinds - one for the bathroom, one for the kitchen and 1 for the floors)
~ toilet and cistern blocks: branded - £1.50/£1
~ fabric freshener spray:generic (i prefer the smell) - £1
~ carpet spray:branded - £2.50
~ washing up liquid:branded - £2
~ window cleaner:generic - £1
i buy mostly branded but i smarter shop - i buy from the cheaper places such as my local pound stores or i buy things on offer (i recently got a 42 wash bottle of fabric conditioner for £2,these are normally over £3).in all honesty though, there is not that much difference - my generic bleach actually lasts longer than the branded which claims to last up to twice as long as standard...you may find that it streaks a bit more,or that its a bit more runny but it really doesn't make a difference - i just use newspaper to polish my windows afterwards.it's just a preference thing really
