Air Conditioning Wiring Problem - Help!?
Help Me, Please! I Have An Old Air Conditioning System...Made In 1985, And The Condenser Fan Went Out. Long Story Short, I Bought A New Fan And I Don'T Know How To Hook It Up. The Old Fan Had 4 Wires Coming Out Of It: Purple, Black, Green, And Brown. The Green Is The Ground And The Brown And The Purple Went To The Capacitor, Black To Power. Then There Were Two Smaller Black Wires Attached To The Capacitor And They Lead Out To Other Components. My New Fan Has A Green Wire, A White Wire, A Black Wire, A Brown Wire And A Brown And White Striped Wire. My Problem Is This: I Don'T Know Where To Attach The White Wire Or What To Do With The Two Smaller Black Wires That Were Attached To The Old Capacitor. I Was Told By The Gentleman Who Sold Me The Fan That I Splice The White Wire To Purple Wire - Then Do I Hook That To The Capacitor? What Do I Do With The Two Smaller Black Wires That Lead Out To Other Components??? (Cap Them Off???) I Am Confused And Need Some Advice!

did you get a new capaitor to go with the new motor if yes both black wires that were on the old capacitor go on the same set of terminals the purple wire goes on the new capacitor.. the purple wire on the old motor is the same as the white wire on the new motor...plus the brown wire with the white stripe is same wire as white wire...splice the white wire and the brown and white stripped wire to the purple wire.......the brown wire is the same as the orignal brown wire from the old motor and goes in same spot on the capacitor the other brown wire went from the old motor, should be on the other set of terminals on capacitor.....the black wire is the same as the other black wire from old motor and goes in its original place...the green is just a ground and needs to be put where the other green wire was...

What Does Air-Conditioning Ready Mean?
I'M Looking At Houses Online And A Lot Of Them Say, &Quot;Air-Conditioning Ready.&Quot; Some Of Them Are Completely Remodeled With Great New Paint. To Put In A New Air Conditioning System, Would That Mean I'D Have To Have Everything Repainted?

"Air-conditioning ready" can mean several things. One for certain is that it does not already have air conditioning or else they would say so.

Most often it is a nice way of saying that the builder has saved some money and put in holes under windows with a blank plate where if you are lucky enough to to find an air conditioner to fit you will no either have to put a unit in a window or you will not have to make a hole through the wall. Often these air conditioner sleeves are not insulated and the metal will conduct the hot/cold air very nicely.

It could also mean that the house was wired with outlets for air conditioning units in mind.

It is unlikely that this is intended with any thought of a central air conditioning system in mind but it could also include: a space for an "A" coil over top of a furnace and/or existing duct work that is currently for a hot air system but if (and only if) it is also insulated could it be used for an air conditioning system as well.

Generally, I would NOT consider it either an incentive to buy the home or as an increase in value on a home to be purchased. It is more marketing than mechanical.

With respect to painting it depends upon what you would do for an air conditioning solution. You currently have several choices only some of which will require extensive repainting:

1. A central air system using an internal evaporator and external condensor plus insulated ductwork. If there is no existing insulated ductwork installation may require some painting.

2. A ground source heat pump system. This uses a water condenser that is cooled with water from the ground but in other respects is like a normal central system. This is probably the most expensive to install and the cheapest to operate. It also supplies heat for the winter. There are also less efficient air source heat pumps.

3. A central system that uses heat from solar panels to provide power to cool the system. This is a little on the techy side but may appeal to some.

4. A ductless split system using a central external condensing unit and several "heads" or evaporators. These units are extremely quiet and efficient and while extensively used overseas is relatively new to the US.

5. Window units or similar packaged units that are installed through the wall.

6. Also stand alone package units that use a tube to blow the hot condenser air to the outside. These are the least efficient but have certain applications.

You may have to repaint if you don't like the colors in any event.

My Air Conditioning Filter Is Frozen?
Hi I Need Help Because Since About Yesterday My House Hasn'T Been Cooling Down? I Woke Up Sweating And Its Going To Be Three Thirty In The Morning. I Cannot Take The Heat And It'S Mostly The Hottest In My Room. I Opened The Place Where The Filter Is At And It Is Frozen Solid! I Don'T Know What To Do Or Even How It Happened? And Ps The Actual Filter That You Have To Replace Is Frozen Should I Get A New One And How Do I Take It Out?

This operation is only done if your AC unit is the old kind placed through the window or wall. And only if your AC unit is accessible from inside and outside the house, which means if you can reach the front cover and if you can reach the back side of the unit only. If you live in a high rising apartment building and the AC unit is hanging out from the window do not try to clean the outside of it, you may fall and die…… just clean the front side which is inside your room. If you can’t then have somebody help you please.

1- Turn off the AC unit please and let the Ice melt completely.
2- Remove the front cover off if you can please.
3- Bring a used tooth brush and heat the neck of it on the stove just a little so it bents and it looks like V shape easier to grab while cleaning, if you can’t just use the brush as is.
4- Bring a bottle of water and put some small holes on the cap.
5- Now start cleaning the large Aluminum piece in front which is called condenser.
6- Using your brush and bottle of water, start brushing the condenser from the top while purring water on it towards down until the hall thing is clean. Then squeeze lots of water using the bottle to make sure you get the dirt out.
7- You will find out that all the dirt blocking the condenser from cooling melting away with the water and it should be dripping from the back of the unit outside.
8- Make sure you do not (DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT) place any water on the electrical switches or wires, just the large metal piece that has air vents in it.
9- Make sure you only use plastic brush, tooth brush is the best for this job and take your time do not bend and poke things because there are cooler lines in there.
10- It will take some time and you will get sweaty but it’s ok because it’s worth it.
11- When finished from the front spray the condenser with air refresher, place the front cover back I and clean the filter and place it back.
12- Go from outside and you will see the same if not larger condenser in the back of the unit, it’s probably dirty, get your bottle with you and squeeze lots of water on it until you see all the dirt melts away with the water.
13- When done turn back on your AC unit but do not place it on High, I would say little bit more than a half or ¾ no more. When you place it on high it may freeze again. If that happens lower the temperature a little.
14- Enjoy fresh air and make sure you clean your AC unit once every few months.

Is It Cheaper To Run 8 Fans Or A A/C In A New Home?
Central Air Conditioning Or Ceiling Fans And Oscilating Fans As A Substitute? Which Is Cheaper And How Much Will You Save?

Fans. An air conditioner works like a heater and a compressor. The heater runs but just blows regular air. It then goes thru a compressor which is what makes it cold (the fan on the outside of the house) and then get piped back into the house and up thru the vents. It takes A LOT of energy. Just run the ceiling fans.
