Residentially, I've seen more Carrier furnaces and split-system A/C's than Trane. They both make good units but Carrier has a slight edge with their Infinity ICS line of furnaces and evaporator coils. Chevy Cavalier Air Condition Fan Problem?
My 2002 Cavalier'S Ac Is Acting Strangely - The Cooling/Heating Is Fine, But The Fan Only Kicks In When I Have The Knob Turned To The Third Strongest Setting. Anything Lower And Nothing Happens. Is This A Fan Belt Problem Or Something Else? I Can'T Really Afford To Take It To The Shop Unless It'S Something Easy To Fix And Inexpensive, So I'D Appreciate Any Advice On What The Problem Could Be And How To Best Fix It!!
It could be a bad switch, blown fuse or it could also be a part called a resistor. I would start with replacing the resistor since they usually are only $5.00 to $10.00 bucks and are fairly easy to replace. If the fuse is ok, then the fan switch and resistor are next in line to send power to the fan on low speeds..the high speed is controlled by the fan switch and a relay.
The resistor is a small plastic plate about the size of a credit card mounted to the heater/ac duct under the hood..usually on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is usually held in place by two screws and has terminals on it with 4 or 5 wires connected to the terminals. Purchase a new one first at a parts store or dealership and when you take off the old one just transfer the wires from the old one to the new one in the same positions. You'll notice on the back side of the resisitor there are 2 or 3 coils of wire..these coils vary the current to the fan from the switch thereby controlling the fan speed and I'm guessing that one or two of the coils is burned out or the terminals.
If this does not solve the problem, I would say it's the fan switch itself on the dash which is bad and may be harder to replace by yourself but they are usually pretty cheap parts..just the labor might be a little high to take the dash apart at a shop.
