Frequently Asked Questions:
Cleaning Up Broken Cf Bulb?
Had An Old Compact Fluorescent Bulb Fall Off Of A Shelf And Break On Top Of The Washer Where My 3 Year Old'S Clothes Were Washing. Tiny Glass Particles Were Visible Under The Washer Lid, So I'M Sure Some Got In With The Clothes. Just Read Several Articles About The Mercury Vapor And Powder In These Things And How Toxic They Are. Cleaned It Up As Best I Could According To Instructions I Found On Line, But Not Sure What To Do About The Clothes In The Washer. Any Suggestions Are Welcome, Thanks.
Here is the Environmental Protection Agency's advice:
Have people and pets leave the room.
Air out the room for 5-10 minutes by opening a window or door to the outdoor environment.
Shut off the central forced air heating/air-conditioning system, if you have one.
Collect materials needed to clean up broken bulb:
stiff paper or cardboard;
damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes (for hard surfaces); and
a glass jar with a metal lid or a sealable plastic bag.
DO NOT VACUUM. Vacuuming is not recommended unless broken glass remains after all other cleanup steps have been taken. Vacuuming could spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor.
Be thorough in collecting broken glass and visible powder. Scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard. Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. Place the used tape in the glass jar or plastic bag. See the detailed cleanup instructions for more information, and for differences in cleaning up hard surfaces versus carpeting or rugs.
Place cleanup materials in a sealable container.
Promptly place all bulb debris and cleanup materials, including vacuum cleaner bags, outdoors in a trash container or protected area until materials can be disposed of. Avoid leaving any bulb fragments or cleanup materials indoors.
Next, check with your local government about disposal requirements in your area, because some localities require fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) be taken to a local recycling center. If there is no such requirement in your area, you can dispose of the materials with your household trash.
If practical, continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave the heating/air conditioning system shut off for several hours.
03 Chevy Venture Air Conditioning?
My Problem Is This:There Was A Loud Noise With It Last Week, Then It Started Spewing Hot Air. Also, When I Turned It On, I Could Smell What Seemed Like 'Electrical Fire', So I Turned It Off.
Recently, I Had The Air Filter Replaced, So It Blew Good Air, And It Was Great.
I Wonder If It Is An Electrical Problem Or...Freon? Can You Estimate The Cost?
Hard To Drive In Az W/O Ac.
i'm in tucson, and yes - it's awful w/o ac. from what you've described it's nearly impossible to know what happened or how much it'll cost.
the air filter doesn't affect the a/c. low freon will cause the air to not be as cold as it should be, and if it gets too low, there is a safety shut-off so the compressor won't run at all and it's like not having any a/c at all - but there shouldn't be any loud noises or electrical burning smells with low freon.
at the heart of your a/c system is a belt driven compressor. if there's enough freon in the system, a clutch on the compressor kicks the compressor on and off periodically - when it's opperating normally. if you can identify the compressor, you can tell if it's running or not when you turn the a/c on. don't touch it while the engine is on! it starts and stops periodically under normal opperation. if there is an electrical short somewhere, turning it on, even for a few seconds can be very dangerous though. also, if you smelled this inside the van, it could be coming from wiring under the dash. I would want to know where that smell was coming from - because it likely needs attention, whether or not it is responsible for no a/c.
the easiest thing to do is call a few shops in your area and ask if they do "free diagnosis." most i've run into won't, but you might find one. otherwise, $30 will get you an a/c diagnosis at pep boys
Why Does My Car Smell Like Gas Inside When I Turn On The Heater On?
When I Turn My Heat On I Always Smell Gas.
The finned area in front of your windshield is where the fresh air intake for your heater air conditioning is located. If you have a gas leak on a gas line, or a carburetor that is flooding, the fumes will come out the back of the hood from the fan blowing across the engine, and be sucked into the passenger compartment, but once you are moving you will probably not notice it anymore. Check for a gas leak on the engine.
Smell Coming From Central Air, Only While Ac Is Running.?
I'M In A New House (Built In May 2008), With Central Air Both Ac And Heating. I Ran The Air Conditioning From May Until Late Last Year With No Problems, And Then The Last 2 Weeks Or So (The Air Was Cooling Down), I Started Having A Rotten, Hard To Describe But Possibly Mildew Like Smell Coming From The Vents, Mainly At Nights. After I Switched To Heating The Smell Went Away For The Entire Winter, And Though I Had Someone Take A Look At It Before, They Found Nothing And I Wasn'T Using The Ac So I Figured No Problem Waiting Maybe It'Ll Go Away.
Today I Turned The Ac On Again For The First Time Since Then, And The Same Smell Came Out Of My Vents, Not Immediately But Again As It Started Getting Later, And Colder Outside (Or Maybe The Ac Was Just On Longer).
From What I Can Tell, The Water Build Up Appears To Be Draining From The Unit, And When They Opened The Unit Last Time I Didn'T Smell Anything Coming From Inside, But I Don'T See How It Could Be From The Vents Since It Doesn'T Effect The Heating (Which When Turned Back On Stoped Giving That Smell), And Runs Through The Same Device/Vents). My House Is Still Under Warranty So Its No Problem To Get Someone Out Here, But Does Anyone Have An Idea Of What I Could Ask Them To Look For? Also With The Smell Mainly Coming At Night Its Hard To Duplicate But If Anyone Has Any Suggestions About That It'D Also Be Appreciated. Thanks In Advance For Any Help/Input.
I think your evaporator coil needs cleaned. It can get a buildup of mildew on it over time, which will smell bad when the cooling is running because the coil is wet. When the heat is on, the moisture dries, hence there is no stink coming off of it. Then when you fire up the AC again, the coil starts collecting condensation and the smell comes back. Getting it cleaned should solve your problem.

The air conditioner in my home is 4 years old and it is running quite smoothly till now. In normal circumstances, if you take good care of the electric appliances, it will last for a pretty long time. I have a good experience with Pandora's OEM. If you need any appliance repair parts, give them a call. You can also visit their official website and read their reviews in the internet.
