Two Story House With 1 5 Ton Ac Unit?
I Live In Texas In A 2-Story 3000 Square Foot House. Unfortunately The Air Conditioning System Is Not Zoned. What Are Some Ways To Efficiently Run My Air Conditioning System With Keeping Both The Top And The Bottom Levels At A Decent Tempeture. Should I Install Radiant Barrier In The Attic, Or Maybe Get Solar Screens Put On The Windows, Or Maybe Both To Help Out My Air Conditioning Problem. The Main Problem Is That I Have To Turn The Ac Down Really Low To Have The Second Floor At A Decent Tempeture And Then The First Floor Is Too Cold. Any Suggestions Would Be Apprieciated.
Hi Tex... I have my own heating and AC co in Niagara Falls... A common problem on the second level of homes is not enough Return Air ( air being sucked back down to the furnace or air-handler.) Maybe you could look into running an additional return air duct up to the second floor. Keep it on an interior wall , and keep it at least 8 to 10 feet away from any supply air registers, which should be located on outside walls near windows. Maybe you have what they call a Ductless air conditioning system, which I have actually never installed, but have worked on. Some do come multi zoned...meaning, one condensing unit (with compressor) on the outside of the house....and 2 separate evaporator/blower systems installed inside the house...usually mounted up high on the wall in two of the biggest area rooms. Using some kind of sun deflectors on your windows can help...but some people find them ugly. One thing you might be able to try doing is installing a small exhaust fan up in your attic above the top floor. Especially if you have a big attic directly above that second floor. It is easy to get around up there to install if the attic is big. Also that big attic will also contain alot of heat. That project is best left for the coolest time of year. Basically, you have a vent on one end of the attic ( there are some nice decorative vents for gable ends of the house), and then you rig up another exhaust vent on the other end of the attic...with a small blower installed against it...if you have blown in insulation you might want to make a cabinet for around the blower with a filter track and filter on the intake end. You can hook up a 120 volt thermostat to it. Myself...I would just incorporate an old furnace fan control into it . Set the fan on setting for approximately 120 degrees F. and fan off setting at approx. 90 degrees F. When the unit is running it will suck cooler outside air into the attic and exhaust the hot air out at the same time. This will dramatically improve your air conditioners cooling capacity in your house...GUARANTEED !
Can Cold Air Make Your Face Burn?
Recently At Work I Have Had To Be Right Under The Air Condition And It Is So Cold. Could This Cold Air Be What I Making My Skin Burn Since The Burning Started After I Had To Be Under The Air Conditioner
Yes, Yes, and Yes!
The cold air itself could be "windburning" your skin... or it could just be drying your skin out, causing a burning sensation.
I would recommend using moisturizers to keep your skin hydrated. This will keep your skin from drying out, and could even prevent the "windburn" from your AC, if thats what is causing the problem.
Hope this helps!
Best Air Conditioning System For This House?
The House Has A Steam Heating System, Would That Make Installing Central Air Conditioning Pretty Much Out Of The Question? Are There Other Types Of Ac Systems Which Might Be Better For This House?
Have a HVAC person look at it for you. It depends on the house. A one floor house with unfinished basement and attic is easy to install central AC in, but a two story gets more complicated.

If your refrigerant is low, IT HAS A LEAK.
Are you going to fix the leak, or just keep venting Ozone damaging chemicals into the atmosphere?
Each one of you who answered this person to just run down and grab a can and stuff it in has no stake in what happens to this poor guys car. You do have a stake in what happens to the world.
If you grab a can and put the whole thing in, is your car full of refrigerant or is it still low or is it too full???? The point is YOU DO NOT KNOW. What will happen to this vehicle if it is too low or full???
In the USA there are federal regulations governing servicing of Mobile Air Conditioning Systems. Hey VW Tech, are you ASE certified for Air Conditioning?
Please take your vehicle to reputable certified shop and have it repaired and serviced correctly. It isn't a valid DIY project.
Did you all know that the real shops have a saying that for every can of R-134A that Wall-Mart sells, we get 500 dollars worth of work(avg). Who is getting one over on who?

Should Our Windows Be Closed If We'Re Using Central Air Conditioning But It'S Cooler Outside?
I Know You'Re Always Supposed Have The Windows Closed When You Use Air Conditioning But Where My Roommate And I Live We Have Lots Of Days That Are 74-80 Degrees Outside But Due To The Sun Shining On The Roof It Gets Like 84-90 Degrees Inside. It Seems Weird To Shut All The Windows When It'S Actually The Perfect Room Temp Outside. Our Central Air System Sucks In Air From A Big Central Vent And Then Spits Out Cooler Air In Every Room. I Feel Like The A/C Has To Work Harder With The Windows Shut Because It Makes Our Condo Like An Oven. Am I Crazy?
If the air outside is cooler, then turn off the air-con and open your windows. If you have windows in opposite walls, or in rooms across from each other, then open the doors to allow a through flow of air. This will also help cool the place.
If After a few hours the place gets to hot inside, then I am afraid you would be best to keep windows shut and air-con on.
Hope this helps
