Onto the actual heating/cooling question... Utility rates are generally cheaper in the South. So even if you exactly the same amount of power it would be cheaper to do in the South. My electric rates in NC are about 60% of what I paid in NY. Heating is only heavy duty in the north for about 5 months and A/C is heavy duty in the south for about 6 months. In the north I paid electric and gas for heat and hot water. Those combined would always exceed my electric in the south (which is heat, A/C, hot water, etc.).
plus - you could keep the A/C off if you really had to. Heat was a necessity up north.

I live in hot area also, my mom used to always put the fans pointing out the window, back in the olden years of no a/c, but houses were made to get a cross-breeze, with windows on the other side of the house, in those days. If these were true, skydivers would suffer the same thing in mid air and either pass out or die.To the best of my knowledge, NO skydiver in free fall has ever passed out or died during the free fall provided they were under 10,000 feet. Above 10,000 feet, you require an external oxygen supply or you MAY pass out from a lack of oxygen because of low air pressure, which is why aircraft are pressurized. It takes TIME to safely descend from cruising altitude to 10,000 feet which is why they have those little yellow masks so even though the pressure is too low for your lungs to work, they increase the O2 level so you can still get enough to survive. Your lungs work on what is called partial pressure. If the partial pressure of O2 is high enough, your lungs work even though you may be in a really low pressure area. Spacecraft, the moon landings, ran only 7 pounds per square inch inside the capsule which is like being on top of Mount Everest and then some. Raising the percentage of O2 raised the partial pressure so their lungs still worked as if they were at sea level. Anyway, the buildings were only about 1400 feet to the roof, well under the altitude for needing O2. Now as for what happens on impact... This is rather gruesome. Think a water balloon that is half full and what happens when it lands. It greatly deforms and then does not break. The body has bones, but the bones are simply not strong enough to avoid fracture. You can over come dirty coils to a point by adding refrigerant but it wont last long. So it is possible he is correct but I would ask him for an estimate to fix the leak and also get another couple estimates\opinions before I made a decision.
