Frequently Asked Questions:

Air Conditioning For Home & Car...From The Sun?
Haven'T We By Now Gotten To A Place Where The Sun'S Solar Light Or/And Heat Can Power Air Conditioning To Cancel It? By Solar Electricity, Or Sterling Engine To Compress Freon-Equivalents, Whatever....

the problem with this theory is that on cars, the air-conditioner compressor is run on a separate belt that's connected to the engine. it is therefore only compressing the freon when the engine is running. this is true even on the hybrids out today. i do know of a couple ALL electric car manufacturers out there that have utilized solar panels for recharging the cars, but i think it's a great idea to incorporate the air-conditioning units on these cars (if they have a/c) to some sort of thermostat system.

Which Is Better; Heat Or Air Conditioning?
I Want To Know Which Is Worse On You The Heat Or Air Conditioning? I Work At An Outside Hotel Which I Am In And Out Of The Rooms But It Seems Like The Air Makes Me Cough. At Home We Have A Window Unit Which Just Feels Like A Fan Is On In The Heat Of The Day, But It Seems Like I Can Handle The Heat A Little Better At Work? Is Sitting In The Air Really Good For You If You Are Outside In Heat Alot?

Other than bacteria in air conditioning unit as a source, both dry the air.

IMO, it depends very much on the humidity where you live. Dry air keeps dust and pollen floating in the air. In humid climates the dust and pollen is heavier because of the moisture and drops out of the air reducing the amount you breathe.

But unless you live in a very cold climate the a/c runs far more than heat runs in the winter and lowers the humidity more than heat. So I say the a/c.

How Do You Clean The Air Ducts In A Car?
My Car Is Getting Older And I'Ve Noticed The Air Coming From The Air Conditioning Ducts And Air Vents Smells Musty, Dusty, And Dirty. Is There A Way I Can Clean The Ducts And Vents? Also, Is This Something I Can Get Done At An Auto Detailer?

The answer to your 2nd question first. Maybe?! Some detailers will only clean/restore what they can reach, although there are some who might go the extra mile. The problem is, they don't want to be responsible for destroying your dash vents to get at the ducts.
When I worked in a body shop, we simply used compressed air through the vents to blow out the dust and dirt accumulated while the car sat inside being worked on.......some people even put pieces of air freshner directly in the vents to sweeten the smell afterwards.

Who Invented Air Conditioning And Why???
...... The Title Says It All Lol

Samuel Morse invented air conditioning while playing cards. He needed to send a telegraph message to the Duke of Marleybone but since it was so hot in the Mediterranean, the telegraph wires would not transmit a clear signal. He found out that evaporating gas caused a cooling sensation and so he invented the worlds first air conditioner (it was cylindrically shaped by the way) in order to cool down the copper telegraph wires. The cool wires could now transmit the telegraph message clearly and the two men were able to negotiate a treaty to end the American Civil War.

Air Conditioning With Vault Ceilings?
I Work In Two Churches... In The Hot Summer Months, We Run Air Conditioning. Both Are Ducted Through The Floor. The Church Design Is Traditional, With A Large Vaulted Ceiling. We Have Ceiling Fans At The Top. There Is Some Confusion If They Should Be On When The A/C Is Running. Any Thoughts? Would It Be The Reverse For Summer? Many Thanks!

Cold air sinks, so it's too bad your A/C vents are in the floor. You should use the ceiling fans to pull the cool air upward.

Edit:

Well, if the vents are in the floor, I would think people would only be cooled up to their ankles, and adding some upward draft might pull the cool air into a more even circulation.

The other consideration is that moving air makes people feel cooler due to evaporation of moisture from the skin, even if the surrounding air is relatively warm.

Can you run the experiment? Try all three fan settings (up, down, and off) and see which works better.
