You can ask any business to supply evidence of general liability contractor insurance coverage. Any company that is not ready to supply evidence of basic liability (GL) insurance need to be prevented. A minimum standard for GL insurance is $1 million for residential work and $2 million for light industrial.

There are other techniques for investigating a/c, heating and ventilation companies such as: call your local Better Business Bereau (BBB), carry out online searches and evaluations and ask the business in concern for referrals. Nevertheless, all these methods disappoint extensive transparency. The BBB in fact works for the companies it represents as they are only ranked if the company in concern pays them a repeating charge. Online review sites hardly ever display all the reviews received, and post reviews from sources that are not always trustworthy. This offers a platform for companies to post their own reviews and individuals to hastily post reviews without the business in concern's capability to expertly fix the concern. In addition, no company would offer an unfavorable recommendation; only those that are exceptionally favorable. None of these are ideal characteristics for consumers looking for entirely objective reviews and recommendations. It is encouraged to use these approaches as an educated consumer and consider the information source for exactly what it deserves.

Among the finest ways to find a new air conditioning, heating and ventilation specialist is through the "word-of-mouth" method. If the business advised was budget-friendly, professional and trusted for a pal or relative, there is a likelihood that company will do the same for you. Great business use the word-of-mouth approach to continuously supply a new client stream by keeping their customers delighted.

Other traditional approaches for discovering a brand-new air conditioning, heating and ventilation specialist include performing online searches, telephone directory directory sites or online directories and other ad mediums. Keep in mind that all of these methods are purchased and paid for by the business in concern. None of these techniques must function as a testimonial and needs to be used just as finding sources.

3rd party service providers such as Angie's list, Discover Regional and other online companies are the latest platforms for sourcing and score air conditioning, heating and ventilating companies. Although these companies do provide a service with some merit, they are, in reality, adding expense to the customer. Angie's List, along with some other online company directories, charge the consumer directly for their rankings and companies' contact details. Other third-party websites offer customers with air conditioning, heating and ventilation business and add the cost of being a middle-man to business equation. Remember that none of these are "complimentary" and that consumers should understand the expense and worth of utilizing entities like these.

Numerous quotes are advise when working with a cooling and heating specialist. There are no industry standards for rates HVAC associated product or service. Comparable jobs can differ thousands of dollars from one company to the next. A minimum of 3 quotes is suggested prior to the repair work or replacement of any significant cooling and or heater element and before the style and setup of new systems.

A consultation can be of value if the repair work or replacement is costly. Not all service technicians or business are equal or trustworthy. Repairing a/c and heater is very complex. It is not uncommon for a repair work technician to be not able to separate the issue or for an agent to advise an unneeded purchases. Contacting a competing a/c and heating business can conserve time and money and regret.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What Animal Feces Is This?!?!?
I Have A Window Air Conditioning Unit And Am On The Second Floor. I Have Had It For Years (At Least Three) But I Came Home Today To Find Little Blackish Things All Over The Bin In Front Of The Window. I Noticed They Came In From The Ac Unit. It Definitely Smells Like Poop Close Up And Was Soft In That It Smeared Easily When Cleaning. There Was No Definite Shape Or Size And Initially It Looked Like Someone Had Spilled My Turtle Pellets All Over The Bin. Is There Probably An Animal In My Room And What In The Heck Is It? Also - Could It Have Just Been Poop From Outside The Window Thanks To A Gust Of Wind (Because It Was A Lot) - We Do Have A Lot Of Squirrels In This Area...Though I Wonder If Squirrel Poop Would Really Be That Small? Help!

well without a picture, I can only say...if it is big as an O"Henry chocolate bar...then you LET that squirrel have your NUTS if he wants them.

What Is The Difference In A 4 Ton Air Unit And 5 Ton?
I Now Have A 4 Ton However It'S Not Cooling Fast Enough Or Cold Enough.

The difference is 1 ton.

What is a ton of air conditioning in SI units?
It is an energy unit that should be able to be converted into BTU/hr or kW or something similar.

This unit originated with the cooling capacity of a ton of ammonia, the first refrigerant.

A Ton of air conditioning equals 12,000 Btu/h
(also one Btu/h is equal to 0.293 watts so...One ton = 3.516 Kilowatts)
You probably need a ton and 1/2 or two ton airconditioner, since your smaller one isn't working.
Now you know.

Is It Dangerous To Have An Extension Cord Near A Heating/Air Conditioning Vent? And For Permanent Usage?
For Years My Family And I Have Used Extension Cords. I Have Two In My Room Underneath My Bed. One Of Them Is Vent Near A Heating/Air Conditioning Vent. I Also Have Several Things Including My Fan And Cell Phone Charger Plugged Into These Extension Cords. I Would Like To Know If This Is Dangerous Or A Safety Hazard And If So How Much?

I'd recommend buying a few of those "power strips" with fat cords. The good ones have overload breakers, and the heavier wires carry more amperage without getting hot. Also they have switches, so you can power them down for safety when not in use. How dangerous are extension cords? They weren't allowed in any housing the Army ever provided for me 40 years ago. Many house fires involve them. I'd put fresh batteries in the smoke detectors.

My Airconditioner And Power Consumption?
My Airconditioner Is Rated At 1Hp. My Question Here Is That If I Turn The Settings Of My Air Conditioner To Second To The Lowest, Will It Actually Still Use 1Hp? I Mean Does The Amount Of Electricity That An Airconditioner Uses Depend On The Load?

The rating of air-conditioners in horse power is an outdated one, though still used by retailers, where it is the mechanical power of the compressor motor, and once was used as a way to show what value for money was being obtained (the size of the motor). Now we tend to focus more on efficiency, cooling power versus electrical power.

Modern ratings are in kW of cooling, meaning the amount of heat that can be pumped.
In the US, traditional units of BTU are used for cooling capacity, which are actually BTU/h. The conversion is 3.412

Cooling capacity of 1hp system:
A reasonably efficient 1 hp air-conditioner might provide 2.5KW of cooling, so the BTU rating is 8530 BTU/h approx. This is typical as 1hp is 746W, and the pumping of heat due to 746W is usually 3 to 4 times that. This example is 3.35 times, and that is something like the mechanical efficiency expected for a split inverter system, though window units tend to be less efficient. (see the link below).

Electrical power used:
The electrical power used by a single phase 1hp motor may be 1kW, and there is additional power for the fan motor, so the overall power consumption is something like 1.2kW when the compressor is running and 200W (0.2kW) when only the fan is running. The compressor only runs long enough to provide the cooling that is required, which depends on internal temperature, external temperature, heat load (heat coming into the room from windows, doors, people, lights, computers etc.) and your thermostat setting. Setting a higher temperature means the compressor runs less, and you save power. This is usually a lower cooling setting, as you said.

Energy Used:
Energy is measured in kWh, which brings time into the cost of electricity. If your compressor runs 30% of the time in a 24h period, the consumption over 24 hours is:
0.2kW * 24h = 4.8kWh for the fan
1kW * 8h = 8kWh for the compressor.
Total is 12.8kWh (electrical units on your bill) in a 24 hour period.
Yes the energy used over time does depend on the load and the setting.

Inverter units:
So called inverter units have a variable speed compressor motor that runs continuously, and probably uses 3 phase from the inverter instead of single phase, but the average energy used over time is much the same as cycling the compressor in the analysis above. Efficiency advantages can come from the change in motor type, and eliminating brief stop/start periods of heavy current with no contribution to cooling. The claimed advantages of inverter units (from wikipedia) are:
"Eliminating stop-start cycles increases efficiency, extends the life of components, and helps eliminate sharp fluctuations in the load the air conditioner places on the power supply. Ultimately this makes inverter air conditioners less prone to breakdowns, cheaper to run, and the outdoor compressor is generally quieter than a standard air conditioning unit's compressor."

My Air Condition Unit Just Shut Off And It Wont Turn Back On ! Smell Something Burning Come From The Vents!?
Does Anybody Know What Can I Check Or Replace To Get It Running Again! Thanks

Sounds like your condencer burned out. Time to call a repairman or replace the unit all together.
